Diaspora for African Development (DfAD) and the Enough Food for Everyone IF Campaign are proud to announce the sponsorship of Zed United Football Club in the African Nations Cup UK 2013. The tournament runs from 1st to 15th June with the final being played at West Ham’s Upton Park, the Boleyn Ground.
Zed United is a football club that brings the community together through sport. They cover all age groups and concentrate primarily on youth players who they enable to have positive experiences building a strong foundation for socially acceptable behaviour and adult life. They promote good health for all of the players and believe that keeping active is essential in this age. They have been established since 2009 and are currently in the Goals League. They are based in Southwark, London.
DfAD, through the small grants opportunity from the IF Campaign Central Funds, are sponsoring Zed United’s entry and participation in the African Nations Cup UK 2013 tournament. The African Nations Cup UK is an annual community tournament that brings together football teams and supporters from African communities in the UK. The football tournament was started with the aim of using football as a symbol of unity amongst African communities living in the United Kingdom. It promotes sports and also supports programs that enhance health, education and young people’s talents.
DfAD’s sponsorship of Zed United is intended to enhance the mass mobilisation efforts of the Diaspora Working Group of the IF Campaign to drive the African Diaspora to add their voice to the campaign by attending the London G8 mass rally in Hyde Park on 8th June 2013.
This coming Saturday 1st June 2013 Zed United will play Zimbabwe at 11am on pitch number 6 at The Memorial Park Grounds, Memorial Avenue, West Ham E15 3DB. The second game will be at 3:45pm on pitch number 4 against Sierra Leone. So join us then!
